It's one of our most favourite times of the year, when the entire community comes together to celebrate inclusion and create awareness of World Down Syndrome Day with SOCKS!
Inclusion and a sense of belonging is something every person deserves. We all want to be able to relate to those we see around us, from our peers to those in the media. During the Lots of Socks Window display event, professional portraits of people in our area with Down Syndrome are featured in sock filled displays. Messages of inclusion and brightly decorated windows achieve a lively look in our community. So much so, that we have community members from neighbouring towns that drive through Kincardine each year just to look at the displays!
The participation we see from our local businesses show us just how fortunate we are to live in an inclusive and caring community.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank our amazing photographer, Jamie Edwards of JME Photography Studio and this year, a huge thank you goes out to Bruce Power who donated the printing of all the posters and portraits for this year's event.
It really takes an entire community to put on this event and we are reminded each year how lucky we are.
