Building Resiliency Post-Pandemic Through OTF Grant

Kincardine, ON – On Thursday, July 25th, MPP Lisa Thompson met with representatives from Community Living Kincardine and District (CLKD) to hear from them about the difference that an 18-month, $94,300 grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) has had since receiving it in the spring of 2023. OTF’s Resilient Communities Fund grant program was developed to help non-profit organizations and small communities to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.

“Community Living Kincardine and District is an integral part of this community,” said Lisa Thompson, MPP for Huron-Bruce. “I am pleased to see that our government is supporting them through the OTF Grant, so they can continue enhancing the lives of residents. In doing so, we are paving the way towards a more inclusive and vibrant region.”

The funds have allowed CLKD to bring on a staff person to audit its current supports and services, look for opportunities in supports among vulnerable populations in the community and work to build recommendations on how CLKD can help to fill support gaps as a local service provider. The grant also helped with communications and marketing costs, as well as purchasing new tech equipment.

“As we continue to work toward our vision of an inclusive caring community, we are exploring the possibility of expanding supports to people of all abilities who are aging, and their caregivers. Increasing value and resiliency for our organization, increasing access to supports for more people and sharing our knowledge as we collaborate with partners in the community will expand our vision to an inclusive caring community for all,” said Andy Swan, Executive Director, Community Living Kincardine and District.

Community Living Kincardine and District supports over 150 people living with a developmental disability in the Municipality of Kincardine and the Township of Huron-Kinloss to live enriched and meaningful lives, as independently as possible.

“Whether it’s helping people learn new things, connect with their community, or simply have fun, organizations like the Community Living Kincardine and District deliver experiences that make a difference,” said Stan Cho, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Gaming. “That’s why grant support through the Ontario Trillium Foundation is so important. This funding will help ensure that it remains at the heart of the community for decades to come."

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) is an agency of the Ontario government with a mission to build healthy and vibrant communities across the province. Last year, OTF invested more than $110M into 1,044 community projects and multi-sector partnerships. Projects aim to enhance economic well-being, foster more active lifestyles, support child and youth development, provide spaces for people to come together and connect, and create a more sustainable environment.
